Welcome to Wrockwardine Wood Bowls Club. These are very exciting times for our club. With membership rapidly rising and progress being made to lay a second green; the fundraising committee is in full swing with many initiatives starting to bring in much needed funds. Many thanks to all our members and sponsors for supporting us in our vision to increase participation in Crown Green Bowls in the local community.

Race Night 2  - WWBC are holding their next Race Night on Friday 3rd February at 7.30pm at the Football Club on the same grounds as the bowls club. All proceeds will go directly towards the New Green Project Fund. If the last one is anything to go by it should be a really enjoyable night for all and we would love you to attend. Due to the generosity of several clubs, leagues and individuals we have sponsors for all the races and many of the horses and jockeys but we do still have an opportunity for individuals to help us by... sponsoring a horse or jockey at £5 each. If your horse or jockey is a winner on the night you will receive a prize. You can pledge your donation (if you wish to pay on the night) to either wrockites@hotmail.co.uk, by contacting us here , or by contacting any member of Wrockwardine Wood Bowls Club. We really hope that you can support us either by attending or by pledging your sponsorship.

New Bowling Green Update - With only 12 weekends left before the start of the season and the new green will need to be used there is still a large amount of work to be completed. This work is mainly around the surrounds of the green and in preparation for the electrical work to be completed. The green itself is looking fantastic. It was seeded on the 17th & 18th September and was cut for the first time in late October. We then cut it every weekend from late October with it having its last cut of 2011 on Wednesday 30th November. We have had a few weeks off for Christmas and the new year. Phil Clee, Martin Williams, Allan Gaut and Steve Roberts all arrived at the green on Saturday 6th January 2012. The green had its first cut of 2012 a slightly problematic event as the clutch broke on the mower with a small part of the green left to cut. Bring out the hand push mower and a lot of effort from Phil to complete the cut.

Here is a picture of the green after it had been cut :

We will now be cutting the green each week that the temperature is suitable until the start of the season. We also did a couple of other jobs between the two greens.

The jobs that need to be completed in the next 12 weeks are:

  • Slabs to be laid around each edge of the green
  • Gutters weeded
  • Astro Turf cut into long strips and laid into the gutters
  • A route dug between the new green and the club house for the electrics to be installed
  • Tidy the area at the back of the new green
  • Once the electrics are installed, slabs laid to create a path between the club and the new green.
  • Fence posts to be installed to extend the security fencing along the silkin way.

We can not do all of this without your help. We are asking our members to come and help for a few hours in a morning or in an afternoon over the coming weekends (weather permitting) to get some of these major, time consuming jobs completed. The new green committee do understand that everyone has other committments but if 50% of our members all did a couple of hours each it would make a massive difference.

If anyone knows or has a link with a fully certified electrician who could help us get the flood lights connected and installed at a good rate then please click here and let us know.

We will be publishing a date for a work party towards the end of March where we will require as many people as possible to come along and help get both greens, surrounds and club house ready for the start of the season. More information on this will be posted nearer the time and once we have an idea of how much is left to be completed from the list above.
